The Statue of Lapu-Lapu is a bronze statue located in Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines. The statue depicts Lapu-Lapu, the native chieftain of Mactan who famously defeated Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521. The statue was created by Filipino artist Eduardo Castrillo and was unveiled on April 27, 1980. It stands at 20 meters tall and weighs approximately 50 tonnes. The statue has since become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of Filipino bravery and resistance against colonization.
